It’s going to be a double boost for India at the upcoming 88th Academy Awards. After Chaitanya Tamhane’s Marathi film Court, actor Esha Deol’s starrer Kannada film Care Of Footpath 2 has been selected as a lateral entry for the Academy Awards. Esha’s mother, actor-politician, Hema Malini says it’s a “proud” moment for her.

Directed by Guinness World Record holder, director Kishan Shrikanth, best known by his screen name, Master Kishan, Care Of Footpath 2 is a sequel of the 2006 film Care of Footpath (2006). It also features actor Avika Gor. Hema took to Twitter to share the news.

In a series of posts, she wrote: “Wonderful news which I must share with all of you! Esha’s bilingual movie in Kannada and Hindi has made a lateral entry into the 2016 Oscars! Premiere will be in Los Angeles, USA, in October, before release in India. The movie will be released in Hollywood style with a lot of fanfare. All India release in November. Esha plays the role of Meera, a bold advocate fighting for justice. First time a Kannada film has won an Oscar entry. Such a proud moment for me when I heard about this honour! With this she is one step ahead of us both. Felt I must share my joy with all of you.”

Care of Footpath 2 will release in Hindi as Kill Them Young. Court (2014) has been announced as India’s official entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category for Oscars.
