KOCHI: When ‘Kannadi’, the children’s play by Magic Theatre was staged at JT Pac, actor Jayaram was one of the chief guests. “I planned to leave after 10 minutes but the play held me to my seat. The characters Amina and Pokker still remain in my mind,” said Jayaram when asked to speak after the play. Within a year, Apoorva Bose, the lead actress in the play, found herself invited to play an important though small role in Vineeth Srinivasan’s directorial debut, ‘Malarvady Art’s Club’.
Apoorva, now a Class XI student of Choice School, is a Malayali despite her surname that sounds North Indian. “The film offer didn’t have anything to do with my acting in ‘Kannadi’,” she says.
A photographer friend sent a few snaps of hers to Vineeth who was looking for fresh faces for ‘Malarvadi.’ Apoorva passed the screen test and was chosen out of some 6,000 applicants. “It came my way during my Class X board exams but the people behind ‘Malarvadi’ were such known names that I didn’t want to miss the opportunity.”
But it didn’t stop her from scoring 92 percent in the exam. If you are wondering how she did that, listen to this. Apoorva is trained in all classical dance forms besides kathakali and ottamthullal. She has also learned western and eastern classical music and continues to practise all these on a daily basis!
“I like to participate in all events at school.” Her parents are her strength, says Apoorva who is their only child. Her father, Chandrabose, an advocate, and mother Sangeetha who is a social worker and a dancer herself, have all along supported her artistic talents.
She acted in a telefilm ‘Gramabalika’ when she was in the Class IV and modelled for the ads of Veegaland, Coco Cola and Tata AIG. But it was ‘Malarvadi’ which was the breakthrough, she says. “Acting in the movie was a great experience. I had only a few scenes but my part demanded acting potential. Vineeth is brotherly and calm in nature. All the five actors were like my older brothers.”
Right now, Apoorva is busy with her exams but she is open to film offers. “I am getting a few offers but am on the lookout for good roles. My passion is acting but I want to take up law as a profession,” says the doe-eyed beauty.
