Innocent elected AMMA president for fifth time

Innocent has been the president of AMMA for the past 12 years.

Veteran comedian Innocent made a record when he was elected the president of the AMMA Sunday for the fifth time without any opposition.

The main agenda in the 18th Annual General Body Meeting of AMMA (Association of Malayalam Artistes) held here was to elect a new set of office bearers and Innocent was elected unopposed.

Innocent has been the president for the past 12 years. Each term is for a three year period.

Edavela Babu has been elected secretary and their no opposition to that either.

The others who were elected unopposed included State Forest Minister KB Ganesh Kumar, an accomplished actor and Dileep as vice-presidents; superstar Mohanlal as general secretary; and Kunchako Boban as Treasurer.

Senior actor Jagdish told IANS that everything went of smoothly and since there were 12 nominations for the post of 11 executive committee, so the election has been held.

"Nedumudi Venu, Lal, Devan, Lalu Alex, Indrajith, Suraj Venjaramood, Jayasurya, Sadiq, Kavya Madhavan, Lena and Kukku Parameshwaran, were elected while actor Ravindran came 12th and was not elected," said Jagdish, who was the treasurer in the outgoing committee.

He added that of the 435 members of AMMA, 242 cast their votes.

"The main project of the new committee is to conduct a stage show to commemorate 100 years of Indian Cinema. Among the other issues that the new committee is likely to take up include increasing the monthly pension to ailing artists and also new membership," said Jagdish.
