His pluck to experiment sets him apart from the crowd. Indrajith falls into the category of actors who can be relied for their consistent performance. The versatile actor, who is gaining applause for his performance in ‘Ee Adutha Kaalathu’, has a host of movies lined-up, including, the M T Vasudevan Nair-Hariharan project and Saji Surendran’s ‘Husbands in Goa’. The actor is also keeping his fingers crossed for the release of ‘Karmayogi’, a film adaptation of Hamlet, which will hit the theaters on Friday.

‘‘I have been selective throughout my career and is content by the way my career graph is going. I have been fortunate enough to do an array of distinctive characters that are poles apart from each other. My latest excitement is the MT-Hariharan project which deals with a socially relevant subject. I’m extremely honoured to work with the classic writer and the veteran director of Malayalam,” says the actor.

All excited about the rave reviews he is garnering for his latest movie, ‘Ee Adutha Kaalathu’, he says, “Portraying a person from the lower strata of society was challenging enough. With its novel narrative technique, the movie was a good experience for me. There is a tinge of satire throughout the storyline. Even serious incidents are narrated in a light way which I have not seen in many Malayalam films. Besides, issues like the way aged people are treated in the society and the adverse effects of Internet are all discussed in the movie, though not in a deliberate manner.”

Indrajith’s entry into cinema was through a telefilm, ‘Annie’ and the editor of the telefilm was Arun Kumar Aravind, the director of ‘Ee Adutha Kaalathu’. “Working with friends always helps us to improve ourselves. That will be reflected in the movie, too. Murali Gopi, the script writer, is also a friend of mine for the last twelve years.”

The actor who says, having a working chemistry with the crew of the film is an essential criterion for him, adds that good script is another thing that he keeps in mind while committing a project. “But the foremost priority is of course the scope of my character. I have been attempting to bring a fine balance between commercial and art movies while acting. In ‘Karmayogi’, a V K Prakash movie, I play Rudran Gurukkal, a kalari guru. My character is an adaptation of shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’ and like the prince of the tragedy, my character is also constantly in a dilemma as ‘to be or not to be’. In, ‘Husbands in Goa’, a comedy by Saji Surendran, I play a funny character. Other projects  are ‘Mullamottum Munthiricharum’ and ‘Outsider’,” says Indrajith. He is of the view that strong storyline is the foremost thing that matters for the success of a film. He says, “there is an appreciable effort from the side of new directors and actors to revive the industry. And I believe the quality of movies released these days in Mollywood are much better than the other industries. The perspective of the audience have also changed. They make sure the movie is getting good reports before buying tickets.”

The actor, also a playback singer who has sung in a few movies, will sing a small portion in ‘Husbands in Goa’. Being an aspiring director, he also plans to take a movie in the future, but not very soon.
