One of the last lines uttered by Julius Caesar, ‘you too Brutus’ is an expression that conveys the jolt over betrayal. But we are not talking about any Shakespearean tragedy here and Roopesh Peetambaran’s film by the same title also carries an interesting tagline ‘nalla golden chati’. “‘You Too Brutus’ is an out-and-out comedy entertainer and here the title comes with a funny twist,” says the director.
Starring a bevy of young actors, ‘You Too Brutus’ basically revolves around two brothers who drift apart following a clash. The film follows them both, chronicling the incidents in their lives with a dash of humour. Hari, played by Sreenivasan, is a successful artist who looks down on others. When Abhi, his younger brother, leaves their home he accommodates a couple of youngsters which leads to a string of funny incidents. Abhi, a sound engineer by profession, has a crisis when an aspiring singer Shirley enters his life. Asif Ali steps into the role of Abhi while Rachana Narayanankutty plays his wife Aparana. Honey Rose appears on the screen as the singer. Tovino Thomas, Anu Mohan, Ahmed Sidhique, Sudhy Kappa and Ena Saha are also part of the cast.
Though the film looks like a bromance on the surface, the director says it’s woven around relationships. “Love, brotherhood, friendship, betrayal - you will find all the emotions, but played out on the screen with a pinch humour,” says Roopesh.
Roopesh, who had earlier made ‘Theevram’ starring Dulquar Salman in the lead, says ‘You Too Brutus’ has an entirely different subject and treatment.
“It’s a simple and normal story, but told in the funniest way possible. It’s not a film for any niche audience, all generations will find it equally entertaining,” he says. The film, produced by Sheikh Afzal under the banner of Round Up Cinema, is expected to hit the screens this weekend.
