When was the last time you watched a film without a sense of sudden deja vu? Well, Mudhugauv, a caper-thriller starring newbies Gokul and Arthana in the lead, promises to be one. “Mudhugauv is an absolute fun ride and the USP of the film is it’s unpredictability. Very often it’s random factors that swerve the storyline to an all-new direction. It will be a surprise treat for Malayali audience,” says director Vipin Das.
Mudhugauv is a film built on the good ol’ hero-heroine-villain format. “And from the cliche springs a lot of surprises. It took nearly three years to complete the script of Mudhugauv as there was no reference points,” says Vipin who is also the scenarist of the film.
Vipin says though his film is a thriller, it doesn’t have a complicated plot. “The first half follows the hero-heroine-villain triangle, but what sets it apart is the treatment. Again, it’s not that the entire reel time is shared between the three. Mudhugauv has an ensemble cast and has seven equally important characters.”
The film is also the launching pad of Suresh Gopi’s son Gokul Suresh and Arthana. While Gokul plays Bharat, a last semester engineering student, Arthana appears as his love interest Ganga. It’s Vijay Babu who steps into the role of Villain Ramakrishnan Bonacaud aka Rambo. “Another interesting character is Padyappa, a cowardly and short-tempered police officer played by Baiju. Soubin and Harish are two small-time dons and Indrans also appear in a key role,” he says.
The film was conceived as an audio-visual treat, says the director. “In the film each character is presented with a particular colour tone. While red and pink is used for the lead pair, warm yellow tones are used for Baiju and a bright floral palette is used for the characters of Soubin and Harish.” He adds that Mudhugauv has every ingredient to make it a mass entertainer. “There is oodles of fun, romance, drama, action and suspense,” he says.
We all know what Mudhugauv means and Vipin says his film captures a kissing spree in fact. “But again it’s not something you expect. To know why and how you will have to watch the film,” he says. Mudhugauv, produced by Vijay Babu and Sandra Thomas under the banner of Friday Film House, is expected to hit the screens next week.
