With the state government clarifying that only films with a U certificate can be considered for entertainment tax exemption, more filmmakers are ensuring that their film qualifies for the sop. The latest in this is actor Krishna’s Kazhugu, which has already seen a delay in hitting the screen.

The censor board has reportedly awarded the flick a U/A certificate, stating that it can be made a ‘U’ if the filmmakers agreed to remove a few scenes that showed smoking.

Speaking to City Express, the Kattradhu Kalavu actor said, “Taxes are now playing a big role in films, and we are trying to get a U certificate to make our flick eligible for the tax exemption. Kazhugu has already had too many cuts, and yet, it hasn’t been given a U certificate. Officials of the certification body are asking us to remove a few smoking scenes but this is not possible because an important character in the film is a smoker. We have been trying to convince the board and hope to hear a good result soon.”

Kazhugu is said to be a comedy-thriller, written and directed by debutant Sathyasiva. Krishna’s good friend Yuvan Shankar Raja is composing music for the flick. In the movie, the actor plays the role of a person who rescues bodies of those kill themselves by falling off from a mountain. Kazhugu has been planned for release on March 9.
