At 16, this Mysore girl had the guts to go to the then Madras (now Chennai) alone to explore acting opportunities in Kollywood.

Soon the bold and beautiful Abhilasha, got a chance to work as a model for ‘Ruby Dust Tea’ and ‘Surya Tea.’ The advertisement hoardings in which she featured attracted the attention of movie-makers and soon the teenager made her debut in tinsel town with the Malayalam flick Jungle Boy in 1987.

Abhilasha now makes a comeback after a decade of hibernation, with an important character role in Kannada film Puneet. Her husband Kadir Raj makes his debut as a music director while her daughter Sonu makes her debut, as a child artiste, with this film. What’s her fitness mantra? “I do a variety of exercises.

I also dance every day for a while.

The two-pronged formula helps me keep my body fit,” says Abhilasha.

She acted in films such as Ondu Cinema Kathe, ‘Prithviraj,’ `Vajra Kote’ and ‘CBI Vijay.’ “I consider my role in ‘Ondu Cinema Kathe’ as the best in my career. I acted with Ananth Nag in that film. In ‘CBI Vijay,’ I played Vajramuni’s wife,” recalls Abhilasha.

Her well-known Tamil film was Thendral Sudum in 1999 and her last Telugu film was Maavaadu Premalo Paddaadu.

What does Abhilasha feel about the present crop of films. “There is a lot of difference.

Now, many youngsters are coming forward to act in films. It is a good trend,’’ says Abhilasha. “I had to keep myself away from films, as I had to look after my daughter.

Now, she does not require much help and care. So, I am ready to act in more and more films,” explains Abhilasha. “Being an actress, I should be ready to play all types of roles without any reservation,” she adds.
