KOLLYWOOD is full of talented artistes who have made a big name with both their acting and dancing skills. Skilled dance masters are much in demand and highly respected in the industry. So when renowned dance director of Kollywood, S Raghuram, opened his dance school Narthanasala in Mahalingapuram, both Kamal Haasan and Prabhu Deva were only too happy to accept his invitation to inaugurate the school.

At a simple and informal ceremony, Raghuram revealed that the school was dedicated to his parents and his guru. “Apart from all types of western and Indian dances we will also be teaching rural dances. Kuthu paatu alone does not constitute rural dance but there are several other forms as well.”

Lauding the efforts of Prabhu Deva he added, “It was only after Prabhu Deva became so successful as a dancer that men started coming into this field. He has many Eklavyas who have made him their guru and started dancing inspired by him.”

Kamal recounted his age old association with the Raghuram family, “When we started out, Raghuram and I both didn’t have a penchant for studies. We used to bunk school and spent many hours discussing what we should do in life. We both started out as dance masters in two films.”

Narthanasala has a branch in the US, run by Raghuram’s daughter Suja. On an advance invitation from Raghuram, Kamal Haasan agreed to inaugurate the new branches in the US at a later date as well.
