Here’s an equation that confounds our best-known sex siren, Shriya Saran. Is more glamour, one bikini shot and a lip lock clearly resulting in more money in the box office? If these conditions often imply a fatter paycheck for the heroines, why don’t they assure bigger returns? Is more skin show bigger business in showbiz?
“I really don’t understand what wonders glamour can work in the industry. And I think we’re overdoing the glamour part here. It’s unnecessarily being made into a big issue and doesn’t warrant so much talking,” honestly reveals the near-size zero Shriya, who was on a whirlwind visit to the city last week.
And, perhaps, as a result, the actress going in for a moderately deglammed look in two of her forthcoming flicks, Jaggubhai and Kutty.
“In any film of mine, from Sivaji The boss to Thoranai, there’s not a lot of skin show without the songs. This is extending to both my roles in Kutty and Jaggubahi as well. Also, the roles I am playing are such that I will be seen in more Indian clothes,” reveals the actress, calling them interesting and exciting movies to be part of.
But, perhaps, in a bid to make up for that, there’s a complete treat awaiting her fans in Kandhasamy, in which she is said to be at her sexy best. That, again, she argues, was brought in for her character and isn’t unnecessary skin show. “It’s a character with a lot of grey. It required that bold look and no, I don’t think my next couple of films will disappoint people because they don’t show me the same way. It’s all about the roles I undertake,” she signs off.
Shriya’s eco-friendly drive
Don’t be surprised if you catch Shriya Saran taking a walk in the Mumbai. “There’s so much good each of us can do to the environment,” the actress states with a pensive look. “I believe each of us can contribute in a small way. And as a policy, I don’t use plastic bags, I ensure electricity is spent judiciously and I take walks to do errands, instead of travelling in cars,” explains the actress.
Forthcoming flicks
Kandhasamy
A one-minute trailer of the film, already popular on Television, shows a liplock and a few of Shriya’s sexiest looks ever. The film is over two hours and we’re definitely hoping there’s lot more to look forward to. An August release
Jaggubhai
It’s a flick on the daughter-dad relationship, and how a week’s holiday that the duo takes changes them forever. It has Shriya playing Sarath’s daughter. Fans can expect the sex siren to get sentimental here. A Diwali release
Kutty
Shriya plays a college goer in this film, which is a remake of Telugu blockbuster Arya. All of Nayanthara’s fans, who were furious with director Mitran Jawahar to see Nayan completely draped in Yaaradi Nee Mohini, will soon fell the same angst seeing Shriya in Kutty
Chikku Bukku
Here’s a breather, and Shriya will be here usual scantily-clad self in the film, in which she pairs with Arya. The film, directed by Manigandan, is about how a train travel makes two people fall in love
‘Chatting with fans is fun’
It has been more than a decade since Shriya became an actress, but she has hardly been part of an interactive event with fans. She broke this rule to spend time with fans during this visit to Chennai, and interacted to fans across the world, live, in an event organized by Sify. “It has never happened before but it’s interesting to know what fans think about us,” says the actress, who was asked questions that ranged from a plain ‘Will you marry me?’ to ‘What is global warming all about? What does Greenpeace do?’
