Her debut film Mudhal Mudhal Mudhal Varai (M3V) got her noticed and went on to land her a role in Sibi, a horror flick. This was followed by the multi-starrer Ninaithaley Inikkum. She was last seen as a spunky journo in Unnaipol Uruvan and its Telugu version. And now, model and actor Anuja Iyer re-surfaces in Kadhal To Kalyanam (K2K), the film that also stars debutant Sathya, better known as Arya’s brother.

“K2K is like a slice of life.

It’s a film on urban family life, directed by Milind Rao, former assistant to Mani Ratnam. It has characters and dialogues anyone can relate to,” reveals Anuja. “I play Radha, who is the hero’s best friend from childhood, and my look spans the age-group of 15 to 25 years.” Also a part of the cast is Divya Spandana. With two heroines and one hero, the film may give an idea of a love triangle, but Anuja dismisses this. “Not at all. The film glorifies friendship, and my character brings about the twists and turns in it. It’s about how platonic relationships can co-exist with love.” Playing a teenager required a new hairstyle among other makeovers for Anuja, and also gave her a chance to showcase her talent.

“I have played different roles so far; most of them serious ones. In K2K, I play a bubbly tomboy. I want to be a complete actor, one who can do a variety of roles and dub for herself too,” she reveals.

Anuja is excited about the three songs in K2K.

“Azhagaay Pookadhe from Ninaithaley Inikkum became popular in 2009 and gave me a lot of recognition. Similarly, in K2K, the montage song Natpin Kadhaigale by Yuvan will stand out.” With a cameo in Yuvan Yuvathi and a guest appearance in Ko, Anuja is happy. So, will she take the glamour route to make it big? “Audiences prefer content- driven films, not just glamour,” she stresses.
