With just two days left for the release of Velayudham, M Raja comes across as a director who is reasonably confident of his film’s success.  Talking about the movie at a meet recently, he said, “It’s a mass film. So everything is grand and the movie has many commercial elements to look out for.”

Raja claimed Velayudham would add a new dimension to commercial cinema.  According to the director, who is known for making Tamil remakes of successful Telugu movies, there are 30 comedians along with Santhanam and 15 villians in this film. “It’s unique like my other movies.”  The director said that though he had no qualms about remaking movies, he would soon be doing a film with his own script for the Kalpathy Agoram banner.

When asked why he hadn’t cast Jayam Ravi in this film, Raja said the script was specially etched out for Vijay.

“Vijay once asked if we could do a film together and I immediately agreed. I knew Vijay’s film had to belong to the mass genre and I too wanted to give a super hit film after Santhosh Subramanian,” he said.  Raja claimed to have an emotional connect with this film. He  said he had lost one of his good friends, Tirupathy Samy, who had directed Azaad. “ It is to pay tribute to him that I have now remade the film in Tamil as Velayudham,” he said. When asked about the story, the director maintained silence but assured that it would be a blockbuster hit.
