Vijay’s most expensive flick has borrowed its concept from the Telugu film ‘Azad’, which was released fifteen years ago.

Just one song and some post-production work is all that is left in the Vijay-starrer ‘Velayudham’, which is being produced by V Ravichandran for Aascar Films. “The film will hit the screens this Diwali on October 26. Although the audio was launched in Madurai on August 28, there will be a grand trailer launch in Chennai shortly,” says director Raja.

"The date of the film’s trailer launch will be announced soon. We launched the audio in Madurai as the script is connected to the place,” says Jayam Raja.

Talking about the pending song, Raja says, “We will be shooting this song sequence from September 17 in the locales of Srinagar, Kashmir. After a long time, the Tamil audience will get to see Kashmir in Velayudham. The last Tamil film to be shot in Kashmir was ‘Aran’ with Jiiva.”

Choreographed by Shobi master, the song will be a duet – ‘Molachu moonu ilai vidala’ and both Genelia D’Souza and Hansika Motwani will be dancing to Vijay’s tunes. “I do hear about the ego clashes between the two heroines who are working in this film. But I think it is a healthy clash,” he adds.

Known for his successful remakes, with brother Jayam Ravi in the lead, he says, “‘Velayudham’ is the costliest film ever made with Vijay, and it’s not a remake. I’ve only adapted the idea from the Telugu flick, ‘Azad’, which released 15 years ago,” he says.
