The shooting of the film Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya, which comedian Santhanam is producing along with director-producer Ramanarayanan, will resume on August 20. Santhanam plays one of the three leads in the film, which is in the second schedule, along with ‘Power Star’ Dr Srinivasan and Premji  Amaren. Newcomer Visaka is said to pair with the OKOK comedian in the film.

Reports emerged recently that the film is a remake of K Bhagyaraj’s 1981 superhit Indru Poi Naalai Vaa, which featured three men pining for the same girl.  But this is not true, confirms producer Ramanarayan. “Except for having three heroes, this film has no connection with the Bhagyaraj film,” he tells City Express. Ramanarayanan incidentally holds the remake rights of Indru Poi Naalai Vaa and says he does have plans of remaking it in the future.

About joining hands with Santhanam, he says “I have known him for four years now and had given him an advance to work in my banner Thenandal Films sometime ago. When he came back to me with a script and expressed interest to co-produce it, I said okay,” he says.

The title Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya was my choice, says the veteran producer. “I suggested this title to the crew as it’s a humour subject and the one-liner is already popular,” he says.

According to the former head of the Tamil Film Producers Council, the film will be complete in September. He is currently directing the Kannada remake of Kanchana with Upendra in the lead. “The film will hit the screens on September 15,” he says.
