'SOI is a wholesome entertainer'

Venkadesan S

Actor Thaman might have not expected that the lead role he would play in his second flick will have a touch of stars like Rajinikanth, Vijayakanth, Chiranjeevi and Shankar Nag. Yes, we are talking about the hero of Sattam Oru Iruttarai, a remake of 1981 blockbuster in Tamil with the same title. While the young Sneha Britto, the grand-niece of S A Chan drasekar, who made the original version, has directed the remake, the latter has penned the dialogues. Sneha’s mother Vimalarani has produced the film.

However, the good-looking actor didn’t seem to have bagged the role easily. “They held auditions and about 12 other people were in fray. I

was asked to play a particular scene and at the end of it, everybody including SAC sir appreciated my effort. That’s how I ended up in the project,” says Thaman, who was an IT professional before setting foot into filmdom and later enrolling himself in an acting course with Koothu-p-Pattarai Jayaraj.

Thaman says the remake will only have the basic knots of the original version intact and adds that it has been tweaked to appeal the present generation of movie goers. “The original was about nothing but vengeance, but the remake has romance and comedy,” he says. The actor seems to have been made feel comfortable on the sets by senior actors like Radharavi and the female leads — Reemma Sen, Bindu Madhavai and Piaa Bajpai. “I didn’t feel any difference. They all guided and motivated me to help me deliver my best,” he says.

Thaman is all praise for Sneha, who, he says, had a clear idea of how the film should come out and added that the cinematography by CJ Rajkumar will be the most talked about aspect of the film after post release. SOI hits the screens on December 21.
