In a bid to pay tribute to Thomas Alva Edison and to recognise talent in the Tamil film industry, MyTamilmovie.com, this year also, hosted a grand ceremony. The awardees were chosen through online voting. Actors Vijay and Richa Gangopadhyay walked away with the best actor and actress awards at the fifth edition of the Edison Awards 2012 on Sunday. Several celebrities attended the event to encourage the winners.

However, it was Vijay’s presence that delighted his fans the most. The best comedian hero award was given to Premgi Amaren for his comedy act in ‘Mankatha’. While Jeyam Ravi was given best romantic hero award, RK won the best villain award for ‘Avan Ivan’. In the singers’ category, Chinmayee and Alaap Raju won the best playback singer awards.

Also present on the occasion was Harris Jayaraj, who just returned from his Dubai trip. He was given the best music director award. Director Saravanan, who took everyone by surprise with ‘Engeyum Eppothum’, won the award for best debut director.
