The much-awaited science-fiction thriller film, Ambuli 3D has finally released. Now, if you are wondering who Ambuli, just like the the characters in the film searching for the monster, here is your answer. Gokulnath, the winner of Manada Mayilada title, who is also famous for his miming, has played the lead role, Ambuli.

The crew has not disclosed his role till the time of the release. Having kept the suspense even in the film, Gokul, has no regrets for not being shown as himself  in the film. Says he, “The entire story revolves around me, the Ambuli character. I don’t have regrets at all, as I always wanted to experiment with such roles. Even though I’m not seen as myself, the directors have shown the making of my role in the end. So, it was a great feeling when everyone realised only in the end that it was me who played the Ambuli character.”

Not just this, Gokul says  he has been lucky to work with Kamal Haasan’s make up artist, Ramesh Mohanthi, who has worked in Dasavatharam. He says, “The make-up was important in this film. Since, we wanted to create a monster-like image for this film, we had Ramesh Mohanty do my make-up. It involved a lot of time and creativity.”

So, did he find it difficult with the make-up on his face? “Yes, obviously. It took him two and half hours to apply that particular make-up and I had to shoot only for six hours daily. It was a challenge to play this role, as the costume was also custom-made. It weighed nearly 26 kgs. “

He also adds, “It was a rebirth everyday. Since, we didn’t have any graphics in this film, I had to do the stunts by myself. From climbing trees to the chasing scenes, I had to do it with the costume and the make up. Honestly, it was difficult at first. However, I wanted to give my 100 per cent for a good outcome.”

Currently, Gokul is shooting for Pathaiyram Kodi, and once again, he plays an invisible man in that film. He says, “I have always wanted to explore my creativity. I have been doing that even in the small screen. Now, I have got a bigger platform to showcase my skills.”
