CHENNAI: Dhanush starrer ‘Vellai Illa Pattadhari’ (VIP) had a reprieve with Madras High Court on Wednesday rejecting a PIL from an anti-tobacco activist seeking to prosecute the producer for depicting the actor smoking without any disclaimer, on Wednesday.

The petitioner, S Cyril Alexander, State Convener of TN People’s Forum for Tobacco Control, wanted Wunderbar Films Private Limited, producer of the film, to be punished for an offence under sec. 5 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulations Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act, 2003 as it carried the scenes of the lead actor Danush smoking in several scenes.
