I didn’t think I could be superwoman until I started planning my wedding, says Vandana Srinivasan. The playback singer, whose voice you’ve heard in films like Raja Rani and Thaandavam, has been on a high recently between her big day just around the corner and receiving a Best Singer nomination for Avatha Paiya (Paradesi) for both the Vijay TV Awards and Filmfare South.
“But I like being busy like this. It makes me feel alive,” she says. In fact, she adds, after a moment’s pause, “I’m still doing recordings with all the craziness of wedding prep because it’s de-stressing for me. For a few hours I know that I can’t think of anything else, but the music.” And perhaps this is why the tunes with bigwigs like GV Prakash and D Imman just keep on flowing. “What I’m really enjoying these days is being able to experiment with genres,” she tells us with a big smile. “Like how one of the songs in Oru Oorla Rendu Raja that I recorded for Imman sir recently was a Carnatic-kuthu track,” she adds.
The mix only gets more eclectic when she’s around entrepreneur and hubby-to-be Anand Pattathil. “One day he’s humming a tune from a Sunil Shetty movie, and the next day it’s Govinda...so it’s entertaining, it’s like being around jukebox,” she says with a laugh. Also, a little birdie told us this ties in perfectly with their funky wedding invitation that promises guests a ‘fun night of Bollywood’. With guests flying in from as far and wide as the Middle East and Europe for this glitzy Mollywood-style Kerala wedding, it sounds like this is going to be one heck of a party.
