Director Saran, who delivered several impressive hits, is now back in action. His eagerly awaited film Aayirathil Iruvar, featuring Vinay and three heroines Samudrika, Swastika and Kesha Kambati in the lead, is now all set for release. Sources in the industry initially indicated that the film was likely to release on December 4.
Ask Saran if that is the case and he replies, “That is correct. However, because of several factors we are now looking at the possibility of pushing the film’s release to either December 11 or December 18.”
One of the many reasons for the postponement is the release of several other movies scheduled on December 4. “Rains are another factor we had to consider. I have the film’s Telugu version also releasing simultaneously. The Telugu version is called Double. To enable a smooth release of both versions simultaneously, we decided to release it on one of the other two dates.” The movie’s title itself is reminiscent of the classic hit Aayirathil Oruvan (1965). Draw Saran’s attention to this point and he nods in agreement.
“We are justified in having this title as the film’s story is about twins who start fighting each other even when they were in their mother’s womb. Vinay plays the twins,” he explains.
As it’s the case with almost all his films, this one too will be “a funny entertainer which will not look to preach. But then, this will also be a film that will have six layers,” he adds.
Saran is forthcoming about the “layers” of his film. “Narrating this story was a challenge. In one layer, a lady who has the password of a Swiss bank account tattooed on her body goes missing. The second will deal with hawala transactions and money laundering. The third is a fight between the twins and another layer looks at the money lenders in Madurai and the huge rates at they lend money at the local level. There are two more layers in the film.”
It sounds complicated just to listen to him describe it. “I used all my experience to tell this story,” he says.
The film has cinematography by Krishna Ramanan and music by Bharadwaj. “This will be my 14th film and it will be completely different from all the other films I have made,” Saran says.
