It’s a film with an unusual title all right. But there’s lots more about it that’s keeping hero Srikanth excited. Sowcarpettai, the next venture of Mynaa producer John Max, is Srikanth’s first horror thriller. Moreover, he also dons his first dual role with the flick. In a chat with CE before the grand pooja launch, Srikanth reveals why he’s eager to start the shoot.
“Sowcarpet is amongst the oldest areas of Chennai but surprisingly no one has ever made a film on it, nor used it as a title. The crux and core of our film is in that area, hence the title. It came as a pleasant surprise to many of my North Indian friends living there,” laughs Srikanth. Srikanth has more reason to cheer.
“It’s the first time I’m doing a double role. I’m also trying my hand at the horror and thriller genres with Sowcarpettai. Its very different from the usual chocolate boy and romantic roles I’ve done so far. So I’m really kicked that director Vadivudaiyaan saw another facet inside me and will be bringing out a very aggressive and hitherto unseen look.”
He’s just completed a photoshoot with heroine Raai Laxmi. The photos underline the drastic changes he’s undergone, “I’ve got a scary aghori look on one hand while on the other there’s a schoolboy look. All credit goes to the director for this huge transformation he’s bringing about, using me in a way no-one has thought of before. My confidence in him has increased further after he systematically handled the photoshoot in a short time.”
The film is touted to be a full blown commercial flick and Srikanth will be teaming up with Vivekh again. The shoot starts in the first week of April in Chennai. Given that there are so many looks, Srikanth is eager to start working on each of them, “We have to handle one look one at a time. So each schedule will be phased out accordingly. After hearing the story, I just cant wait to begin!”
Srikanth, who turned producer with Nambiar, is planning for its release in April. “I learnt a lot after turning producer and had to forego many film offers due to the time spent on my home production. My other film, Om Shanti Om is ready and will release soon. I’ll also be announcing another film soon.” In the meanwhile, all roads lead to Sowcarpettai for him.
