Kamal Hassan's fans had a reason to rejoice after his much awaited movie Uttama Villian was released on Saturday.

The movie was embroiled in financial tussle between South Indian Artistes’ Association and a director’s body.

The discrepancies related to the release of the movie was cleared and the first show was screened in SSR Pankajam Cinema Hall in Saligramam, Chennai. Overcoming financial issues, the movie will be released in 400 screens across the state.

Before its scheduled release, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) requested a ban on the movie claiming that the song which begins as "Udirathin Kathai," shows a conversations between Vishnu devotee Prahalada and his father Hiranyakashipu that has 'disparaging' remarks against Lord Vishnu.

However, High Court dismissed the petition holding that it found no error as contended by VHP. The movie was also briefly trimmed a day before its scheduled release, sources said. They added that the trimmed version is likely to be played only in Tamil Nadu, while the rest of the world may watch the original version.
