Charlie to be Remade in Tamil

Manigandan KR

Yet another Malayalam film is to be remade in Tamil. Well-known production house Pramod Films, which made films like Love in Tokyo (1966) and also introduced Akshay Kumar to the Hindi film industry, has now acquired the Tamil remake rights of the recent Malayalam runaway hit Charlie (2015), which featured Dulquer Salman and Parvathy in the lead.

The Tamil remake will be produced by Prateek Chakravorty and co-produced by Shruti Nallappa. Talking to City Express, Shruti Nallappa said, “We watched Charlie when it  had released and loved it. Last year, we did a Marathi film and this year, we wanted to get into Tamil. We chose to remake Charlie as the film is beautiful and I thought it would suit the audiences here as well. We spoke to the makers and they were interested. We signed the agreement in Kochi on February 7.”

The original Malayalam version was written by Martin Prakkat and Unni, and directed by Prakkat. The two hours and nine minutes feel-good love entertainer had music by Sundar Gopi and cinematography by Jomon T John.

So, who do they have in mind for the lead roles in the Tamil version? “Honestly speaking, we haven’t finalised anybody. But personally, I am interested in having Parvathy play the female lead in the Tamil remake as well. However, I am yet to get in touch with her about this. We are also looking to finalise the other cast and crew members,” Shruti said.
