It is not often that you see a director getting set for a sequel even before a film is released. So, when that happens, one is naturally interested. Work on director Mani Sharma’s horror film Bayam Oru Payanam is almost complete, and he is so sure of its success that he said he will make a sequel to it.

The film, which is in its post-production stage, has already triggered interest as it features Vishaka Singh of Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya (2013) fame in the lead along with Madhuri Dixit and Bharath Reddy. Confirming the news on the sequel, Mani Sharma says, “Right from the start, we knew this film would work and I had planned a second part. It’s just that I am announcing it now.”

The first part, Mani Sharma says, will be complete by itself. However, he adds its ending will lend itself to a sequel. “For now, I intend to call the second part Bayam -2. The second part will start off from where the first ends. But the script will be completely different. I haven’t decided if the artistes who are featured in the first part will be in the second as well. Some of them might change,” he says.

But what is Bayanam Oru Payanam all about? “For most of us, fear is just a small part of our lives. What if one’s whole life is full of fear? That is the idea the first part drives at,” says the director.

And what point will the second part make? “Ah, it’s too early to comment on that. Let that suspense remain for now,” smiles the director, “The film’s post-production work is almost over. If we finish it by the end of the month, we will look to release Bayam oru Payanam next month.”
