Debutant director Sri Ganesh, who’s awaiting the release of 8 Thottakkal, reveals that the film is inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s Stray Dog. Perhaps owing to the international inspiration, Sri Ganesh admits that it was rather hard to convince his producer Vetrivel Saravanan.

He says, “It allowed me to get into the mindset of police officers. It’s a story about many criminals trying to take advantage of a situation. The title is inspired by a scene in which eight bullets are shot in different directions.”

8 Thottakkal, which has Nasser and M S Bhaskar playing important roles, also marks the debut of Malayalam actress Aparna Balamurali, who rose to fame following her role in Maheshinte Prathikaaram.

Aparna, who plays a journalist in this film says, “My character might not have much screen space but will have a strong impact. Director Ganesh saw Maheshinte Prathikaram and thought I would be perfect for the role.”
