This created quite some buzz on social media. Now, Sri Thenandal Films, which is bankrolling the project, has announced that Shruti is not part of the film any more. Its official Twitter handle posted: “Due to unavoidable circumstances, we are unable to proceed working with Shruti Haasan in Sangamithra.”

Sundar C’s ambitious project was supposed to revolve around the titular female protagonist played by the actress. In fact, Shruti even learnt sword fighting for her role in the film. The reason for her exit is unclear.
An official statement from Shruti Haasan arrived later: “Shruti has had to unfortunately take a call to not be a part of Sangamithra. Despite her enthusiasm for the project, she has to give the film a miss since she has not received a proper bound script or information about the filming schedule.”

It’s not yet known who will replace Shruti Haasan in the film. Currently, the actress is promoting her Hindi film Behen Hogi Teri, besides focussing on her father’s Sabaash Naidu.
