CHENNAI: Actor Rajinikanth, who was admitted to a private hospital on Greams Road on Monday, underwent a non-surgical transcatheter treatment for swelling in the main blood vessel leaving his heart, the hospital said in a bulletin on Tuesday.

The statement said that the endovascular repair, a procedure which involves placing a stent in the aorta to completely seal off the swelling, has been done and the actor is in stable condition. He is expected to be discharged within the next two days.

Health Minister Ma Subramanian had told media persons earlier in the day that there was no major surgical procedure involved and that he is fine.

“His condition is being consistently monitored. There is no reason to worry,” the minister said.

The actor had undergone a renal transplant in 2016

Meanwhile Chief Minister MK Stalin, in a post on ‘X’, wished the star a speedy recovery.

Governor Ravi, in a separate statement, said, “I stand with the millions of devoted fans of Thiru Rajinikanth around the globe, in praying for his swift and smooth recovery.”

There has not been an official communication from the actor’s family yet.
