With the year 2009 rapidly winding up it's time for a quick review of what was hot and what was not at the Tollywood box office.

The year was quite a mixed bag with a few path-breaking movies coming to the fore, many star kids giving their maiden performances with all its promise and many more beauties from other circuits making their presence here.

However, what matters is the revenue generated by the films that propels the industry to a brighter future. Here goes a quick recap of the highs and lows of 2009.

The year started on a bright note with ‘Arundhati’ scoring a big hit and taking the Telugu industry to a different league in terms of technical aspects and horror genre both. However, the slump began with the much hyped movie ‘Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam' turning out to be a dud at the box office.

All its promise ‘Billa’ turned out to be a struggling one. While Jagapathi Babu’s ‘Adhinetha’ also wilted. Movies like ‘Mitrudu’ ‘Pista’ ‘Veedokkade’ made at heavy budgets proved disasters.

The only saving grace was ‘Kick’ which turned out to be a major blockbuster.

Medium budget movies like ‘Boni’ ‘Kavya’s Diary’ ‘Aa Okkadu’ flopped whereas ‘Ride’ and ‘Current’ fared well. ‘Magadheera’ created a new chapter in the Telugu film industry. ‘Oy’ did decent business.

But August triggered the string of disasters again with ‘Anjaneyulu’ ‘Mallanna’ ‘Adavi’ ‘Snehituda’ .

Where ‘ Josh ’ ‘ Eenadu ’ ‘Sankham’ failed to woo the crowds, movies like ‘Bendu Apparao RMP’ ‘Bumper Offer’ managed commercial success. While ‘Ek Niranjan’ ‘Ghatikudu’ ‘Mahatma’ and `Jayee Bhava’ did not fare well.

Even the much-talked about ‘Arya2’ failed to impress audiences.
