Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma or RGV for short, is back in the news! The man of evergreen controversies plans to shift base back to Mumbai, after a love affair with Tollywood. Here is a quick chat with him on the latest that matters to him:
Heard you are looking at Bollywood again? Is it because Tollywood bores you?
I don’t think in terms of Bollywood and Tollywood. I just do whatever excites me. The next film’s script I am working on has more of a national appeal and hence I am shifting back to Mumbai.
Looks like you are hell bent upon promoting sex, violence, gangsters and underworld with Killing Veerappan and Attack which are ready for release?
I’ve always been attracted to the two ground realities of life – power and sex. Whatever I do are somewhere connected to that.
What is your obsession with Megastar and Pawan Kalyan (PK)? You keep tweeting about them.
I tweet about whatever catches my attention at that moment. I rarely stick to any one topic. Go through my tweets of the last one week. I doubt if PK or Mega featured in any of them.
Who do you like more and why?
I like PK as a person because I find him like a roaring lion. But whenever he tries to explain issues, his roar loses its zing and I am disappointed. I love Megastar as a star, and not so impressed with him as a leader.
On the personal front, it has been a while since your last link-up. Are you taking it easy?
I am too busy having sex with multiple films to find time to fall in love with a woman.
Even a gangster like Veerappan had strong emotions on display. But you don’t. Why?
Because I am smarter than Veerappan and hence have more control over my emotions.
Why are your films lately such ‘home-based’ small set ups versus mega productions like Sarkaar?
I got infected with that disease called ‘compact filmitis’ for a while, but just got cured with Killing Veerappan and Attack.
When do you think you may die?
The day I lose my ability to make films, because I don’t know what else to do. And the day I will lose my eye sight because I can’t watch porn.
Heard there is your biography coming up soon. Any details?
Yes, it will be released very shortly by Rupa publications from Delhi. It’s actually an autobiography of my thoughts aptly titled ‘Guns and Thighs’
You seem so disconnected with mundane things. Who buys your clothes, takes care of your routine matters?
My driver
