An IndiaSpend analysis of the recent development indicators data shows the rate of development varies widely in India.
Below are the states with most below poverty line population:
- Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have 59.8 million and 35.8 million people earning below the required amount to meet minimum living conditions.
- Also Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Maharashtra have 23.4 million, 23.2 million and 19.7 million people living at minimum income levels.
- India had the largest amount of people living under international USD1.90 a day poverty line in 2016, according to this World Bank report.
