When Vijay's 1996 movie 'Poove Unakkaga' was remade in Hindi as 'Badhaai Ho Badhaai' in 2002, Anil Kapoor was chosen to play the titular role. The movie however, failed to impress viewers.

Vijay's 'Love Today' (1997) was remade by K Muralimohan Rao in 2002 as 'Kya Yehi Pyar Hai' with Aftab Shivdasani Amisha Patel and Jackie Shroff in lead roles. The movie was a box office hit.

When KC Bokadia directed 'Deewana Main Deewana' in 2002 based on Vijay's 'Priyamudan'. Govinda was roped in to become the hero.

While some critics argue 'Khushi'(2003) should be added among the list of those Bollywood movies that should have never been made, the original Tamil movie featuring Vijay and Jyothika remains a cult romantic flick of this century.

AR Murugadoss' 2012 blockbuster 'Thuppakki' was introduced as 'Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty' in 2014 and earned over over ₹1.78 billion worldwide!

AL Vijay's 2013 directorial 'Thalaivaa' was remade into Hindi by Amit Prasher in 2017 featuring Jackie Shroff, Guggu Gill, Daljeet Kalsi and Neetu Singh among others.

Director Haranath Chakraborty was responsible for 'Sathi' the Bengali version of 1999 superhit'Thulladha Manamum Thullum'. Released three years after the original movie hit the big-screens, Jeet and Priyanka Trivedi played the protagonists.
