Eiffel tower, the iron lady of Paris turns 130

The tower was built in 1889 as an entrance for the World's Fair. The world wonder still attracts nearly seven million visitors every year.

The Eiffel Tower has turned 130-years-old on Wednesday. Paris is celebrating its birthday with a light show at the famed monument. (Photo | AP)

The tower, which is also known as 'Iron Lady,' was built in 1889 as an entrance for the World's Fair. The tower which is 324 metres high and weighs 7,300 tonnes is the tallest structure in Paris. (Photo | AFP)

Maintenance of the tower includes applying 60 tons of paint every seven years to prevent it from rusting. The tower has been completely repainted at least 19 times since it was built. (Photo | AFP)
