HYDERABAD: Will the illegal properties seized after the death of gangster Mohammed Nayeemuddin be returned back to their genuine owners? Sources associated with the investigation into the illegal activities of the gangster say so.
The officials of Special Investigation Team (SIT), who have segregated the documents seized from the residence of Nayeem and his family members and associates found that the properties grabbed from people forcibly are registered on benami names. The police will take legal opinion in distributing the properties to genuine owners as per directions of court of law.
After the SIT officials arrested close associates and family members of Nayeem, the officials are likely to file a counter before the court of law to distribute the seized land in hundreds of acres to the genuine owners in various districts. A proposal would be sent to the government for its nod.
In a recently held meeting, the current status in the progress of investigation was discussed by higher officials and the proposal to distribute Nayeem’s illegal assets was highlighted.
Sources told Express that the SIT officials are likely to identify the persons who assisted Nayeem in his illegal activities, arrest them and seize the illegal properties.”The higher officials will obtain legal opinion and are likely to file a petition before the court seeking directions to distribute Nayeem’s illegal properties to genuine owners on the line of Agri Gold cases. However, a final decision to be taken in this connection is to be taken by higher officials,’’ sources said.
Seized properties
The seized property includes documents related to agriculture land, open plots, real estate ventures, mansions, buildings, shopping complexes, apartments and others. Majority of these assets were grabbed by Nayeem and his associates from their owners on pretext of settlements. The assets have been estimated around `1,000 crore.
A number of victims from Ibrahimpatnam, Ghatkesar, Kushiaguda, Medchal of Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda and Mahbubnagar districts have submitted their representations to SIT officials.
