HYDERABAD: Five deaths in eight days, all after Caesarian deliveries at the state-run Niloufer hospital. Was the blood transfused to these women infected? Or did something go wrong with the drug administration? While reason for the deaths are uncertain, possibilities are many.

A three-member external committee would look into all the plausible aspects for death of the women post delivery in the last one week at the hospital. Of the five woman who died, three were operated in the same Operation Theatre (OT), and two in another.

The deaths have triggered panic among the doctors and other staff members and they are awaiting the reports of the tests. Blood and swab samples have been sent for various tests.

Meanwhile, the authorities got the Operation Theatres fumigated after the deaths, and also replaced the bed lining and surgical instruments on Monday. The two OTs where the deaths took place remained closed from Sunday onwards. Officials said the doors would remain closed till they are sure there is no infection.
While normal deliveries were taken up, Cesarean surgeries have been stopped at the hospital. All such cases have been directed to the Modern Government Maternity Hospital in Petlaburj.

Her first delivery too was Caesarean. The first baby was a boy and he died. This was her second delivery. The second son is doing fine now. But he does not have mother or father now
