HYDERABAD: The appointment of Community Resource Persons (CRP), to monitor and ensure source segregation of waste and that garbage is not dumped in public spaces, has been successful for the GHMC.

Based on this, the Corporation is planning to position about 3,600 more CRPs to replicate the impact across 15 lakh households. There will be one CRP for every 600 household, to inculcate the habit of source segregation and link them with waste transport rickshaws.

This, authorities hope, will help bring the concept of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (RRR) into action. The services of CRPs will be monitored by the  Assistant Medical Officer of Health (AMOHs) and the DPOs. Based on their performance and the results, an honorarium `10,000 per month would be paid.

The Deputy Commissioners have been informed to identify the CRPs with good communication skills, basic knowledge on source segregation, who can actively can discharge their work with service orientation.

The GHMC in the first phase positioned as many as 85 CRPs in the uncovered areas.  In the second phase about 153 CRPs were positioned to cover rickshaw areas.
