NEW DELHI: With the Telangana issue hotting up in Andhra Pradesh, the BJP on Thursday sought to transmit some of the heat onto New Delhi. In a bid to corner the Congress, the Opposition party expressed its willingness to support the separate statehood bill anytime.

“Separate Telangana has become a must. The Centre can actually evolve a consensus now as most of the political parties in Andhra Pradesh, including the TDP, are supporting the issue,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

Accusing the Congress of being the only stumbling block, Javadekar said, the ruling party betrayed the people of Telangana after taking the votes from them on the promise of granting separate statehood.

BJP president, Rajnath Singh, also pledged his party’s support for carving out a new state of Telangana.
