Express News Service

Public Accounts Committee chairman Murli Manohar Joshi refused a suggestion, made at the panel meeting convened to discuss the CAG report on the Commonwealth Games (CWG) scam, to summon former head of the CWG organising committee Suresh Kalmadi as witness.

Joshi rejecting the suggetion made by Congress member Sanjay Nirupam and backed by B Mahtab of Biju Janata Dal, said if Kalmadi was summoned, some others, including the CBI, might have to be called as witnesses.

Saying that a summons to Kalmadi might lead to other situations, Joshi said the committee was looking into the financial aspects, not the criminal culpability “as it is not its mandate”.
