Curfew-like situation in Faizabad

An undeclared curfew was imposed in many parts of the holy city of Faizabad following communal clashes on the occasion of Dussehra on Wednesday.

The clashes took place in the communally sensitive city, when a group of people taking out an idol of Goddess Durga for immersion was allegedly attacked by anti-social elements around 6 pm.

Soon, members of two communities allegedly pelted stones at each other and burnt shops at Rakabganj and in the city’s outskirts.

The police had to resort to firing to bring the situation under control.However, by that time, around six persons were injured.Later, an undeclared curfew was imposed in major parts of Faizabad.

This is the seventh communal incident in the state after Akhilesh Yadav Government took charge almost seven months ago.
