Three persons, including a father-daughter duo, were killed after being hit by a goods train as they watched Ramlila close to a railway track in Shivrajpur area.

Ramlila was being played at Sheetla Mandir yesterday close to the railway track and several people had gathered to watch it, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Manoj Sonkar said.

Due to noise of the firecrackers, people watching the Ramlila could not hear the incoming goods train from Kanpur and one of the train's open doors struck three persons, he added.

Jitendra Kurel (35) and his two-year-old daughter, both residents of Beri Village, were killed on the spot along with one Mani Devi, a 40-year-old resident of Shivrajpur.

GRP Station House Officer (Anwarganj) Jitendra Yadav said the incident took place due to people watching Ramlila while standing on the railway track.

Police is investigating into the matter, he said, adding that an inquiry has been ordered.
