Opposition flays Bahuguna government

Express News Service

In a scathing attack on the Vijay Bahuguna-led Congress Government in Uttarakhand over its handling of the recent rain havoc and the ensuing flash floods, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on Monday said the state government should be dismissed for being inept and incompetent.

Swaraj was also severe on the Centre saying  it had failed to provide the “requisite leadership.” This was the sharpest attack by the main Opposition BJP on the Bahuguna Government and the Centre on the issue of providing relief and rescue in the flood-ravaged state.

“I am sorry to say that the government in Uttarakhand has not been able to rise to the occasion. They ought to be dismissed for being inept and incompetent. Unfortunately, the Centre has also failed to provide the requisite leadership,” she tweeted on Monday.

“What has your state government done? Nothing. The living (survivors) are starving. The dead are being robbed. And you are patting your back,” an indignant BJP leader said. “The truth is that I woke you up about the scale of tragedy when I spoke to  Home Minister (Sushilkumar Shinde) on June 18 and tweeted about this. When we enforce accountability, you call it politics. We will not allow you this escape route to hide your failures,” a fuming Sushma added. According to the BJP leader, “all rescue operations have been carried out by the Army, Air Force and  the ITBP. They have done this at the cost of their lives. I salute them”.
