MHA to look into intel on Rinpoche

Buddhist monk Tai Situ Rinpoche has close links with China and managed to get a Bhutanese diplomatic passport issued to him by Bhutan  government under alleged Chinese pressure, sources said.  He was also under Indian intelligence scanner for meeting Chinese officials during his Hong Kong visit in 2009.

“His name cropped up in several cases and, in 2011, Himachal Pradesh Police alleged that he and Karmapa were involved in illegally buying land. Agencies are scanning his files to look into the cases against him. Rinpoche was also barred from travelling to Malaysia in 2012 to attend the World Buddhist Conference,” sources said.

The Himachal government in 2011 accused Karmapa Trinley Dorje and Rinpoche of having Chinese links and indulging in illegal activities under the monastery’s cover. The MHA will decide on his request after getting the reports from security and intelligence agencies.
