Ahead of Polls CEC Nasim Zaidi Meets Leaders in Bihar

During the two-hour meeting with Zaidi, political leaders highlighted various problems, and also raised concerns on the use of money power.

PATNA: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Nasim Zaidi today met representatives of political parties in Bihar to take feedback from them for conducting free and fair Assembly polls in the state, officials said.

During the two-hour meeting with Zaidi, political leaders highlighted various problems, and also raised concerns on the use of money power to woo voters. The CEC assured them that all steps will be taken to ensure free and fair polls in Bihar, they said. Zaidi and other EC officials will hold a closed door meeting with the state's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ajay V Nayak to review preparedness for the polls, the officials said.

The EC officials will also meet state police nodal officer and state nodal officer for Centre Paramilitary Forces (CPFs) to review security arrangements and deployment of forces for the polls, they said.

Zaidi will hold a meeting tomorrow with the Commissioner/IGs/DIG/DEOs/SSPs/SPs of the Assembly constituencies going to polls in the first three phases.

The EC team will also attend a meeting with the Chief Secretary/DGP/Home Secretary/DG(Enforcement), Commissioner Excise, Chief Commissioner (Income Tax) and Director (Income Tax) tomorrow which will be followed by a press conference. The EC has announced a five-phase poll for Bihar between October 12 to November 5 and counting of votes will take place on November 8.
