Sumitra Mahajan to inaugurate 3-day NERCPA conference

Speakers and Deputy Speakers of all the eight North-eastern states are expected to attend the conference.

AGARTALA: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan would inaugurate the three-day conference of the Northeast Region Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (NERCPA) in the Assembly house here on May 30.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Deputy Chairperson of Rajya Sabha Prof P J Kurien, Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha Dr M Thambi Durai and Secretary General of Lok Sabha Anoop Mishra would be present in the inaugural function apart from Mahajan, a senior official confirmed.

Speakers and Deputy Speakers of all the eight North-eastern states are expected to attend the conference, Tripura Assembly Speaker Ramendra Debnath told during a press conference.

Deliberations on two topics - to strengthen the NERCPA for further development of Northeast region states and soil erosion in Northeast India and its impact on the local populace and how political intervention could help to resolve the issue - will be figured in the conference, Debnath said.

Debnath said Governor Tathagata Roy and Tripura Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tapan Chakraborty would remain in the valedictory session.
