KOLKATA: The newly constituted sixteenth assembly of West Bengal has been summoned to meet at 12 noon today.

Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi fixed today’s date for the election of the Speaker of West Bengal Assembly.

The Governor earlier appointed Jatu Lahiri, a Member of the Assembly to perform the duties of the Office of Speaker from the commencement of the first meeting of the Assembly today.

Lahiri will perform the duties as pro-tem Speaker from the commencement of the first meeting of the new Legislative Assembly until the Legislative Assembly chooses a member of the Assembly to be the Speaker.
