Curfew in Kharagpur after communal clashes during a Muharram procession

KHARAGPUR: Curfew has been clamped on the industrial city of Kharagpur after clashes erupted between members of two communities. A few shops and vehicles were burnt by some miscreants allegedly during the Moharram tazia (procession in the centrally located Gole Bazaar area of the city last night.

This morning, members of one community clashed with the police. Policemen allegedly beat up a few of the protesters. A flag march was staged in tense localities and public announcements have been made not to assemble in groups of more than five.
