NEW DELHI: Jantar Mantar on Tuesday witnessed a peaceful march to mourn the deaths of the 7 pilgrims who were killed on their way to Amarnath on Monday.
The march which commenced from 5 pm were undertaken by different party factions, including the youth workers of Congress and BJP.
Carrying placards like ‘Gundown terrorist in Kashmir’ coupled with sloganeering, such as ‘Pakistan murdabad.
Congress spokesperson Tehseen Poonawalla lauded the “peaceful collectivisation of ordinary citizens” to condemn the communal nature of attacks.
Zaheeruddin Khan, a resident of Delhi’s Mustafabad said, “The recent attacks seemed like attacks on my family. Reeling under the pain, I still envision a nation where a Hindu doesn’t shy away from visiting to the valley. I want the Prime minister to declare them as martyrs".
While Himad, a social activist from Srinagar remarked, “Killing of innocents is highly unfortunate, especially because the Amarnath yatra has always been a sign of Kashmiriat where people from all walks of life have been welcomed. But even now, as has been seen in the valley, peace and dialogue will be the way forward. Let us shun violence.”
On June 28, the Not In My Name protestors had gathered in at least 10 cities in solidarity against communal and caste-based violence in the country. The demonstrations were held after documentary filmmaker Saba Dewan called for an agitation in Delhi and created a Facebook event.
