MAHARAJGANJ (UP): The Uttar Pradesh police and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) have stepped up the vigil along the Indo-Nepal border in the wake of a terrorist attack on Amarnath pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir last night.

As a precautionary measure, the security agencies have been asked to ascertain the identity of the people before letting them cross over through the border, said Ranjeet Singh, Deputy Inspector Genaral, SSB.

Orders have also been issued to other security agencies such as the Indo-Nepal Border Police to remain alert.

The police in the border districts of Maharajganj, Siddharthanagar, Shrawasti and Balrampur have been put on a high alert, said Singh.

The intelligence units have also been asked to keep an eye on the religious places along the border.

Patrolling of public places such as cinema halls, hotels, rail and bus stations has also been intensified, said the DIG.

"We are taking all the precautionary steps to maintain law-and-order," he added.
