RAIPUR: A day after the Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi lashed out at Raman Singh for not resigning even though his “son’s name figured” in the Panama Paper leaks, the Chhattisgarh chief minister's son Abhishek refuted the allegations.
Abhishek Singh, in a statement issued on Sunday, said “I had said it earlier and I reaffirm that I have no foreign account. Such charges are false and politically motivated. Neither I have any bank account abroad nor invested in any foreign company.”Abhishek Singh is a Lok Sabha member from Rajnandgaon constituency.
Rahul Gandhi while addressing a ‘Jan Adhikar Sabha’ in Bastar on Saturday sought the resignation of Singh citing Nawaz Sharif's ouster as Pakistan prime minister over Panama Paper issue. “After his family’s name figured Sharif resigned but the Chhattisgarh CM’s family also faces the allegation in Panama paper leak and he has not yet resigned”, the Amethi MP said.
In 2016, the “Swaraj Abhiyan” leaders Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan dragged Singh’s son into the controversy, seeking an investigation on his reported links with 2 companies registered in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) after the Agusta Westland chopper deal was concluded. Bhushan, a noted lawyer, further alleged that 1.5 million dollars were paid as kickback for the deal to CM’s son Abhishek Singh who held offshore assets according to Panama Papers leaks.
