CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has suspended mobile Internet services in 13 districts for three days and demanded 25 companies of paramilitary forces, fearing law and order problems in view of two rallies on Sunday.
The All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti, led by Yashpal Malik, has announced a rally at Jassia village in Rohtak district in support of reservation for Jats. BJP MP Raj Kumar Saini is holding Samanta Maha Sammelan in Jind to oppose the quota demand.
A group of Jats protesting against Saini’s rally clashed with the police and blocked the Jind-Chandigarh national highway. The police used force to disperse the agitators, who had also blocked a road in Kandela in Jind.
The protesters threatened to block other highways connecting Jind with Punjab and Delhi, and demanded the cancellation of Saini’s rally.
According to the government order, Internet services are to be suspended in Jind, Hansi, Bhiwani, Hisar, Fatehabad, Karnal, Panipat, Kaithal, Rohtak, Sonipat, Jhajjar, Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri.
“It appears to me that there is a likelihood of causing tension, annoyance, obstruction or injury to persons, danger to human life and property, destruction of public peace and tranquillity within the limits of the state by protesters/agitators and anti-social elements during two public rallies,” the order says.
