Gurgaon schoolboy murder: HC grants anticipatory bail to Pinto family

The Punjab and Haryana HC granted anticipatory bail to the Pinto family, the owners and trustees of Ryan International School.

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday stayed the arrest of three trustees of the Ryan International Group who had sought anticipatory bail in connection the murder of a seven-year-old schoolboy earlier this month.

Justice Surinder Gupta granted a stay on the arrest of the group’s CEO, Ryan Pinto, and his parents, founding chairman Augustine Pinto and managing director Grace Pinto, who had approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail on September 16. The matter will now come up for hearing on October 7. 

The Pintos, who are based in Mumbai, had earlier approached the Bombay High Court as they apprehended arrest in the case after the school was accused of negligence leading to the death of Class II student Pradyuman Singh at Ryan International School, Gurgaon.

The Bombay High Court rejected the transit anticipatory bail applications of the three trustees but granted them interim protection from arrest for a day to enable them to file an appeal.

Ryan Pinto and his parents were earlier summoned by the Gurgaon police for interrogation in relation to the murder. 

Pradyuman was found with his throat was slit in the washroom of the school on September 8. 

After a hue and cry, the Haryana government had recommended a CBI probe in the matter. The agency took over the probe on September 22.
